Tuscan River and Western by Tony Weber
Loosely based on the railroads of the Coure d'Alene in the US Pacific Northwest, it was a 17' x 12' HO layout with both DCC (NCE PowerCab) and DC control, mostly steam with some diesel and modelling the Union Pacific and Northern Pacific roads. The layout was recently demolished in the move to a new home. The new layout should be underway shortly, but in the meantime, the backyard is slowly yielding to some G scale as seen here. To contact Tony visit his website which is dedicated to his interest in in the sounds and images of steam and diesel locomotives.

Eagle Junction Railway by Bill Dunn & Peter Kennedy
The EJR (Eagle Junction Railway) was started in 1998. Track layout was designed by Peter Kennedy. Peter & I completed the layout (including landscaping) to 99% by late 2006 (there is always something outstanding to do). Originally NSW HO prototype, with a 12mm Qld branch line, this was changed to all NSW HO and DCC after the introduction of Austrains & Eureka locos with sound over the 2006 / 07 Christmas holidays. We use NCE wireless cabs as this gives the most flexibility. The period is 1950 – 1980 which allows the use of steam and diesel locos. The layout is not based on any particular area, but designed for timetable running with lots of shunting included. Contact this member.

Lynch’s Creek by Chris Lynch
A fictional HO scale layout based on Victorian Railways. The layout measures 4.2m x 2.1m and represents a country station and associated yard and turntable facilities on a single track mainline somewhere in country Victoria. The period modelled is from the late 1960’s to early 1980’s which allows for a mix of steam and diesel loco’s and 4-wheel and bogie wagons. Rollingstock is comprised of both metal and plastic kits, and RTR models. Control is via DC block control. Contact this member. |

Restoration of 3802 by Ian Renshaw
My favourite model locomotive is 3802 which was originally made by an unknown person in the 1950's from a kit supplied by O Gauge House of Ashfield Sydney. It is made from cast aluminium in O gauge and I restored
3802 from a wreck in 2006. The restoration took over 6 months to complete and involved stripping the locomotive back to bare aluminium, replacing a side which was damaged, replacing some of the valve gear, replacing the tender mounted electric motor and repainting and decaling the locomotive. The locomotive is currently again in working order and runs on two C cell batteries as well as having two AA batteries to operate the headlight.

THE SOUTH COAST RAILWAY – Northern Division (SCR)
Designed & built by Peter Kennedy
The SCR was first built in Toowoomba in 1953, and has undergone several changes of address and gauges over the years. In 1953 it was “0” Gauge clockwork, and later Hornby Dublo (00). It moved to Oxley in 1962 and was rebuilt, 1987 to Corinda, and finally in 1992 to its present location at Runcorn. At this time, due to space restrictions, half the layout went to my son (Gerard) at Loganlea, his railway being the southern division, and my layout the northern division. Over the years, the locos and rollingstock have changed from purely Hornby Dublo to a wide range of manufacturers, including, Roco, Fleischmann, Lima (38 class), 2 of the latest Hornby locos built in China, 2 Austrains 36’s, Casula Hobbies NSWGR Railmotor & trailer {Tin Hare} and a Eureka Garratt with sound. The SCR (Nthn Div) is 6 x 3.5 M and based on the 1950’s era. It is designed for 1 or 2 operators, timetable operation of passenger, freight and shunting movements using an 8:1 fast clock. Points are electrically operated on main lines, loops and crossovers by point levers at a central control location, while some yard points are manually operated by throw over levers or rods. Ballasted Peco track work and points are used with minimum radius of 2 ft (610 mm) and a maximum ruling grade of 1 in 40. Couplings are Hornby – Dublo or compatible. The SCR is a freelance system of double track main line, lops, and reverse loops, major and minor goods yard, triangle, turntable and three private sidings, all of which are shunted during timetable operations. |

Warring Geddes' Model Railway
HO scale, DC, started on retirement in 1988, and finished in 2007. This is a freelance model railway not following any prototype, region or era. It is an operating railway where trains are assembled and run from a terminal station to any of the other three terminals. The trains run to a programme and for each train there is a TRAIN ORDER CARD which states the type, origin, destination, consist, shunts if required at the intermediate stations and procedure en route. There is a photograph for every vehicle and these are used to determine the consist of each train. The layout comprises a MAIN LINE section and two BRANCH LINES. The Main Line is divided into electrical blocks and two walk around controllers control operation with the aid of bi-directional three colour light automatic signalling. The longest branch line has a terminal station and an intermediate station both independently controlled. The programme of 48 trains works well for three operators and takes approximately three sessions of four hours each to complete.
